Year 3 Ficino Students Explore Nature Up Close

Last week, Year 3 students took their learning beyond the classroom with a visit to Butterfly Creek. The trip brought their studies to life as they encountered a wide range of animals, insects, and even life-sized prehistoric models.

From petting soft bunnies to watching hungry crocodiles, students were fascinated by the close-up experience. A friendly goat was a clear favourite, and the sight of a giant wētā sparked both excitement and a few nervous giggles.

The towering statue of the extinct moa helped students connect with New Zealand’s past and understand how our environment has changed over time.

In the warm, tropical Butterfly House, students observed 12 species of butterflies fluttering around them. They were sad to learn that they only live for 12 days.

The visit was a fun and valuable way to build on what they’ve been learning in class.
