From the outset Ficino School has promoted unity, respect and understanding between all cultures and faiths: actively seeking points of harmony in humanity. The 2023 census data reveals that our school is reflective of the super diverse communities of Auckland. Our students’ ancestry can be traced back to every corner of the globe.

Experiencing a sense of cultural inclusion and belonging is important for children as they develop their cultural identity. Our current curriculum provides opportunities to metaphorically encounter ancient and living cultural traditions through stories, art, dance, and scriptural study. In 2025 we wish to further enhance our students’ ability to explore cultural values, beliefs and ideas by incorporating Religious Studies into the Scripture Syllabus. Religious Studies (RS) also aligns well with our Philosophy Syllabus because students will be asked to consider deep questions about the meaning and purpose of life, goodness, morality and what it means to be human.

As we trial the programme in the coming year we hope to engage with our wider school community to harness your expertise and connections in this realm. With your support we intend to stimulate curiosity and interest in the diversity of worldviews, religions and increasingly hybrid heritages.
