Message From The Principal

Message from the Acting Principal – Week 1, 2025

Welcome back.

The new year is an uplifting and celebratory time. Thanks to the handwork of our Ficino Team, 2025 promises to be an exciting year for all. Those who have followed the progress of the much-anticipated Art Studio on our Ficino Facebook page will be pleased to know that it is complete and looking fantastic. The new art space has enabled our specialist Science teachers, Mrs Roscoe and Mrs Geddis, to transform the once dual classroom into a dedicated Science Lab for students in the Senior School. Keeping on the subject of science, we have also adopted the Cambridge Science Curriculum for Years 1-4. This completes our transition to the Cambridge Curriculum for core subjects across all year groups.

In 2025 we are continuing to build on our strong foundation to pursue new learning goals for our students. In the coming weeks all students will be introduced to the unique Ficino Learning Process. We have designed this to compliment James Nottingham’s Learning Pit. They both encourage students to develop a curious approach to learning and respond to challenges with a growth mindset.

More good news. We are expanding our student leadership opportunities for Years 7 & 8 through a new partnership with Youthtown NZ. The students will not only learn practical leadership skills but also strengthen their confidence and resilience.

Over the summer our newly formed Learning Support team completed further training and are looking forward to creating an inclusive classroom environment where all students feel valued and included. If you have any concern about your child’s progress, please contact your class teacher in the first instance.

More detailed information about these new initiatives will be shared with you at the upcoming Parent Evening on Thursday 20th February.

Best wishes for a happy and prosperous 2025,

Lorna Travis Spicer
