Yesterday our Year 5 and 6 Mathex teams competed against a number of other schools, in a battle of wits and speed at the annual Auckland Mathex competition.

Year 5 (Amelia Z, Lucas C, Zac and Ryan) held their own against stiff competition, managing to come 6th out of 39 teams, despite this being their first time in such a high-pressure environment. In the Year 6 tournament, which had 32 teams, Greyson, Jacob, Jasmine and Lucas Q were neck and neck with Remuera Primary right until the end, when they finally took first place.

This is the third consecutive year that Ficino has secured a first place victory in this event, which is an incredible feat! In 2024, Ficino’s Year 5 team came first, as did Year 6 in 2025. Winning the cup again this year really puts Ficino on the map. Well done to both teams for their effort and commitment leading up to this event and to Mr Gillespie and Mr Crompton who worked with the students to prepare them for the competition.
