Annual Music Competition

The music competition was a real treat for everyone this year. We had one of the largest turnouts we’ve had in years, and I was incredibly proud of all the children! Regardless of their grade, or instrument, they performed with engagement, passion and courage.

It takes great courage to step up and share your work with others, and I think that deserves to be celebrated. Music only truly exists because people play for other people, so we are grateful for the generosity and courage our students showed in coming forward and performing for their friends.

We were also very lucky this year to have a former Ficino student returning as one of our judges. Jamie Taylor studied at Ficino from 20142016 before receiving a musical scholarship to attend King’s College. He is proficient in three instruments and is now beginning his career as a doctor. He was accompanied by a friend who is a trained singer and is also proficient in several other instruments.

Jamie mentioned how impressed he was by the wonderful turnout, and both judges commented on the quality and engagement of the performances. It was lovely to hear them recognise not only the musical ability of our students, but also the enthusiasm, presence and commitment they brought to their playing.

Thank you for your support of the music programme at Ficino. Music does so much to enrich our students’ lives.
