We are very proud to announce an outstanding result for Ficino chess, with both our A and B teams representing the school superbly in a field of 27 teams at last week’s Auckland Interschool Championship.
Team A took third place, which is the best result Ficino has ever achieved at this tournament. Across six rounds our players won four matches, drew one and lost just one, finishing behind only Kings School and ACG Parnell in an exceptionally strong competition. Congratulations to Daniel M, Lucas Q, Lucas C, Greyson B and Annay B on a fantastic performance.
Team B made a valiant effort in what was the youngest side Ficino has ever entered made up of two Year 4s and two Year 5s taking on opponents often two school years their senior. Aadvik A captained the team from board one and scored four points from six games, with Andrew H, Anthony H and Xiao Ping Z competing hard in every round. They never stopped fighting, and with two more years of eligibility ahead of them this group has a very exciting future.
Keep an eye out for these players in the seasons to come!
