Book Week is a much anticipated event in our school calendar and this year was no exception. Activities started on Monday with ‘Drop Everything and Read’, which saw every student in the school engaging in quiet reading at the same time.
On Tuesday, the children shared their favourite books in House meetings. This was followed on Tuesday and Wednesday by visits from award-winning authors Sonya Wilson (Spark Hunter) and Vasanti Unka (I am the Universe). Both writers talked about imagination and the creative process, with Ms Wilson highlighting the importance of putting down devices and ‘taking your imagination for a walk’.
Throughout the week, students worked on their entries for the annual bookmark design competition and the winners were announced today at the annual Book Week parade. Congratulations to Miranda in Year 7 and Isabella in Year 4, whose designs were selected to be professionally printed as bookmarks for everyone in the school. Isabella’s design was insipred by the FIFA World Cup, while Miranda opted for a stylish illustration of a cat at nighttime.
The theme for this year’s Book Week parade was House colours and there were some wonderfully imaginative costumes on display. It was clear that everyone had put a lot of thought into which book character they wanted to be for the day. Thank you to the parents who helped the children to put their costumes together, and to Ms Geddis and our librarian Mrs Le Bars for organising so many exciting activities.
