The class concerts that took place at the end of Term 1 were a truly heartwarming occasion. It was beautiful to witness the courage and generosity of the children who stepped forward to share their music with us.
Performing for others can feel nerve-wracking, as it means revealing something personal and opening ourselves to the judgment of others. After years of playing my instrument and performing for others, I still feel the butterflies and sweaty palms, every time.
For this reason, it is important for the children to have opportunities like these to move through that discomfort and share who they are with the world, in an environment where they are celebrated, supported, and encouraged by their peers.
It was especially beautiful to see the pride and joy on the children’s faces when they stepped away from their instruments and received the warm applause of the audience. Moments like this build confidence and encourage them to keep sharing their music. With that in mind, we look forward to hearing more beautiful music at our Music Competition in Term 3, Week 6, Wednesday 2nd September.
