On Thursday, our Year 1 and 2 students visited Auckland Zoo for the day to find out more about animal habitats and species categorisation. During their trip they learned about the defining features of mammals, birds, amphibians, fish and reptiles, and had an opportunity to see some real-life examples of these up close.
The children, staff and parent helpers braved a heavy downpour to watch a bird flight show and visited the Australian Bush Track where they saw kangaroos and water dragons. Next stop was the South American Rainforest Tack, with cheeky spider monkeys and some very impressive Galapagos tortoises. The tropical zone was also a hit, with its exotic fish and a sunda gharial that lounged in the water right next to the glass, so that the children could see its reptilian claws in detail.
A big thank you to all of our parent volunteers who came along to help and support the children.
