Message from the Principal

This week we enjoyed a day of wonderful musical performances from students of all ages as part of our class music competition. Not only did the children perform, but they also listened to their peers, which provided an opportunity to immerse themselves in the moment and fully experience the thoughts and emotions that the music brought to them.

Music has always been a powerful expression of the heart of Ficino and both the creation and appreciation of all forms of art is a fundamental part of our curriculum. We often refer to the way in which it is important to nurture the mind, spirit, heart and body of each child and the arts is an essential part of the supporting emotional wellbeing and development of every student.

Art, in all its forms, can evoke powerful emotional responses which can prompt reflection and foster empathy. From a philosophical perspective, art has the power to make us question our beliefs and values by challenging established norms and expressing ideas and experiences that are new to us. Fundamentally, the arts are not merely ‘entertaining’; they are important tools for philosophical exploration and self-expression. In a busy world, listening to music, or drawing, or singing are often the only opportunities we have to clear our mind of everything else and simply be in the moment. It’s important to make space in our lives for this gift.
