Students have had many opportunities this term to enhance their learning in class by going on day trips and overnight camps that reinforce their on site lessons. From Year 2 through to Years 7 & 8, students have had many exciting adventures!

To enhance their Nature Studies programme, Year 2 children visited Motat to see science in action and conducted a variety of experiments exploring sound, magnetism, electricity and light.

It was all hands on deck as our seafaring Year 3 students’ braved a cloudy Auckland day to ‘set sail’ on the Ted Ashby, a ketch-rigged deck scow, typical of the fleet that once operated in northern New Zealand waters. Helping to hoist the sail, they took in the iconic Auckland sights from the water. On dry land they got to see the types of vessels used by the early Maori.

Year 4 students went back back in time when they visited the historical village in Howick, getting a hands-on experience of life in New Zealand in the early 1800’s. It was neat seeing them in their historic clothing and a different take on their usual walk to the classroom when they were following their teacher!

Year 5 and 6 enjoyed their recent adventures in Kauaranga Valley. Walking, hiking and swimming under the beautiful sunny skies was much enjoyed. One student’s highlight was conquering the jump into the water at Hoffman’s Pool “I was scared but so proud that I got out of my comfort zone and just did it!”.

Year 7 and 8 students enjoyed their water education with the Waterwise programme. Run by Youthtown at the sheltered Orakei Basin, students were given instruction in sailing, kayaking, windsurfing and stand-up paddle boarding.
