School Levels

Preschool

Ficino Montessori Preschool offers the perfect start for your child as they begin their educational journey. We recognise that young minds really do matter and are mindful of the part we play with families to provide children with an enriching and empowering experience.

PRIMARY SCHOOL

Years 1 – 4

Ficino School aims to foster strong relationships between the children, parents and their class teacher; with both parents and teachers working together to help each child reach their potential.

Our structured classroom settings and clear school values establish important foundations during your child’s formative years. Class sizes average around 20 students, with all classes focusing on the development of the whole child.

Our students learn English and Maths following the Cambridge Curriculum – mental agility is practised in mathematics and students learn to speak, read and write with sensitivity and clarity. Science is based in awe and wonder and our expansive curriculum includes a unique History, Myth and Culture programme, music, the arts, singing and drama.

Nourishing school meals and a specialist PE programme develop skills and provide for the students’ physical needs.

Years 5 – 6

In the second stage of education, children usually become much more aware of how others in the world think and relate to one another. This widening of interest is acknowledged in our curriculum with changes in both content as well as style of learning and enquiry.

Building on the foundations developed in the early years, Year 5 & 6 students continue studying the Cambridge curriculum in the three core subjects. They also begin to sit exams in English, Maths and Science. This early exposure to exam situations prepares them well for study as they progress through their educational journey.

Philosophy is taught using the international P4C programme where students hone their ability for independent expression and constructive dialogue on meaningful topics.

INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL

Years 7 – 8

Continuing on from their Primary School years, students are increasingly taught by subject specialists, developing an enthusiasm for learning and a thirst for knowledge. They are encouraged to take responsibility for their learning and take advantage of opportunities to develop their leadership skills. We find this provides them with excellent preparation for high school.

Senior students are also provided with challenging material including Shakespeare, Beowulf and Wardsworth. Their learning journey culminates with a Renaissance Trip to Italy and England. This journey provides them with the opportunity to further their skills in leadership and self-management.

They continue studying Philosophy using the P4C international programme, and are offered the chance to study Meditation if they wish.
