The study of early New Zealand and the Treaty of Waitangi was bought to life for Class 6 students when they went on a two day trip to the Bay of Islands. As well as a guided tour of the Treaty of Waitangi grounds, which included seeing the Maori Waka, the students experienced an exceptional Maori Cultural performance. Exploring the numerous historical buildings on the grounds the students amassed a wealth of knowledge about this significant time in New Zealand history.
The next leg of their journey included a ferry trip to Russell, which was New Zealand’s first capital city established in the Bay of Islands, in 1840. Following a visit to the Russell Museum and Pompalier House the students were also able to enjoy the natural beauty of the region before heading home.
