Ficino School students work up an appetite at Long Bay clean up

Ficino School students got stuck in cleaning up rubbish from Long Bay beach prior to their annual School Picnic on Sunday last week. Inspired by a presentation from Sustainable Coastlines during the week, the children spent over an hour picking up all kinds of rubbish.

“One principle which we encourage our students to live by is ‘by giving we receive’. Working collaboratively with their parents and teachers is a wonderful opportunity for the children to experience this in practice,” said Principal Peter Crompton.

Having worked up an appetite, the children, their parents, some former students and teachers then enjoyed a picnic lunch and games at the beach, making sure to pick up their rubbish afterwards!

Sustainable Coastlines is a multi-award winning New Zealand charity which coordinates and supports large-scale coastal clean-up events, educational programs, public awareness campaigns and riparian planting projects, as well as helping groups like Ficino School to run their own events.
