The Ficino School Ski Team again proved to be strong competitors at the North Island Primary School Champs held at Whakapapa this year from Monday 24 August to Friday 28 August.
Although the weeks skiing events got off to a slow start due to poor weather our team was rearing to go once competition started.
All our skiers have markedly improved their skills since last year and this showed in the results. These included 8 out of 10 skiers winning their dual slalom races, a third place in the Senior Boys Gravity Cross (this is equivalent to rugby on skis!), along with individual and team rankings in the top 10. The Ficino Icicles ranked 7th and the Frosties ranked 19th, which illustrates how rapidly our skiers are advancing their skills. These are fantastic results achieved against very strong competition.
Well done everyone and many thanks to all those involved in supporting the team. Josh from Snowplanet was the instructor and his daily guidance and evening ski meetings were vital to the success of the teams. The parents on the trip all had important roles and helped make this week run smoothly for all involved.
