Ficino School Letter, Week 9, Term 2, 2018

The school term finished on a resounding note with a full house for our final assembly.  The winners from each class in our annual Speech Competition delivered their pieces with increasing crescendo and profundity.  The confidence of the students was quite incredible and the power of words that have stood the test of time being delivered with understanding and connection was uplifting for us all.

Our founder, Leon MacLaren once said to me that speech is fundamental to leading a good and fulfilling life.  He went on to say that if your speech is beautiful, your actions will be beautiful.  Words have power to transform both the inner being of the speaker and those who hear.

Mufti Day

Last weeks mufti-day raised a total of $215.80.  This money will be donated to Leukemia and Blood Cancer New Zealand.  It was lovely to see the children and staff getting into the spirit of the day, with many wearing blue as requested.  Thank you to everyone who took part.

Information Evening and School Tour

We will resume our recruitment activity for prospective parents in the second week of Term 3 with an Information Evening on Wednesday 8 August (6 – 7pm) and a School Tour on Friday 10 August (9 – 10.15am).  It would be appreciated if you could advise interested family, friends and colleagues.  More information and a registration form is available at

School Holidays

Holidays will run from Monday 9 July – Friday 27 July.  We look forward to welcoming students back to school for Term 3 on Monday 30 July.

We wish you and your families a safe and relaxing time.

Ficino After School Care (FASC)

Note that FASC will not be available during the school holidays.  The last day will be Friday 6 July and will resume again on Monday 30 July.

Bookings for Term 3 are now available – you must confirm regular bookings term by term.

Children can of course still be booked in on a casual basis by phoning the school office, or by email to  by 2.00pm at the latest.

From now on if your child is booked in on a particular day, we will need 24 hours’ notice of cancellation, otherwise you will be charged for their attendance.  This allows us to ensure correct staffing levels are available at all times and other students requesting a place can be accommodated.

If your child is sick or on a school trip, please advise the office as early as possible to avoid being billed for that day.
