Ficino School Letter Week 8, Term 4, 2015

This is our final full week of school, where we have had our Year 5 to Year 8 students (half of the school) out on camps for most of the week. Seeing the students who had attended these this morning, they were obviously tired, but were very positive about the time they have had. Both the Year 5/6 camp to the Waikato and the Year 7/8 Tongariro Crossing had elements of challenge for the students. These opportunities are unique in the school year and offer a different sort of learning and development; different strengths come forward from different children, and there is a great sense of camaraderie and unity amongst this group. At this time of year it is apposite to acknowledge the work put in by the teachers at Ficino to ensure these camps are rewarding and safe. Furthermore, they would not be able to take place without the support of the parents. Thank you to those of you who accompanied the children this week and also all those who have supported trips and events throughout the school year.

Christmas is nearly upon us and as part of a strong tradition at Ficino School, Year Two will perform the Nativity Play this afternoon followed by our End of Year Concert. The words of the Nativity Play are almost entirely taken from the King James version of the Bible. They are poetic, rich in meaning and profound; and excellent material for students so young to be taking into their hearts.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a Happy Christmas.
