Ficino School Letter, Week 8, Term 2, 2018

“All the World’s a stage,
And all the men and women merely players,
They have their exits and their entrances
And one man in his time plays many parts”

These were the words written by William Shakespeare and spoken by Jaques in As You Like It at the beginning of his famous speech on the Seven Ages of Men.  It is wonderful to see our young actors taking different parts in the plays they perform and really entering into these characters.  In life they will have to step into numerous roles and play their parts well.

Class Four under the direction of Mrs Farrelly and with help from parents, staff and friends produced a wonderful performance of The Magician’s Nephew; the first story in The Chronicles of Narnia by CS Lewis.  The play script was adapted from the story by Mrs Roscoe some years ago and interpreted freshly this time around.  The students’ diction was excellent and there were some wonderfully comical cameos throughout the performance.  The teamwork, engagement and personal development of the whole class was evident.  Although these plays take an enormous commitment of time and energy, they have a lasting impact on the students across many spheres.

As a school we are fortunate to have such a talented staff who can turn their hand to productions like this.  Thank you also to the parents, without whose support, such ventures would not be possible.
