Message from the Deputy Principal
Year 7 and 8 students have arrived in Rome and hopefully are sleeping well before they begin their first adventure of this wonderful Renaissance Tour – an exploration of Ancient Rome – the Colosseum and Forum, and a trip out to Hadrian’s Villa.
The rest of the school have their own very full programme of adventures while the senior students are away. This week Year 1 and some from the Preschool visited the Tutahi Tonu Marae at the University of Auckland Epsom Campus; Year 2 went to the Zoo to investigate the various forms of camouflage employed by animals and those that are nocturnal. One student from Year 6 competed in a Remuera Zone competition in Persuasive Speech; and five boys from Year 3 and 4 competed in the Remuera Zone Champion of Champions Gymnastics Competition. Also, three 4-member teams from Years 5 and 6 competed in the Mathex Competition held at St Kentigern Boys’ School, at which they fared extremely well, gaining results out of 100 of 85, 95 and 100, with time to spare. Out of over 35 teams competing, two of our teams came 4th and 7th.
From an American writer, Willa Cather,
“Miracles seem to me to rest not so much upon faces or voices or healing power suddenly near to us from afar off, but upon our perceptions being made finer, so that for a moment our eyes can see and our ears can hear what is there about us always.”
We are looking forward to welcoming grandparents and other guests into the school next week, so that children can share their classrooms and show their work to those special people in their lives.
