A word from the Principal
Class Two performed the annual Spirit Play to rapturous applause from their parents and the rest of the school. They spoke clearly and relished the opportunity to be on the stage in front of over a hundred spectators. This play, based on an ancient text called the Kena Upanishad, is all about power and its source. The gods of water, fire and wind arrogate their powers to themselves forgetting their link to the Source. Their egos’ grow big and their power consequently diminishes to almost impotency. They can’t even wash away, burn or blow away a simple straw. This story was a nice segway into our Friday morning assembly. We have been looking at what limits us from freely expressing the fullness and perfection of our human nature, and the Spirit Play helps to explain that. We watched a video clip of Mamoudou Gassama, the Malian man, who rescued a four year old boy hanging precariously from a four storey balcony, without any thought for himself or his own safety. This young Muslim man took thirty seconds to pull himself up from balcony to balcony to reach the child; a selfless feat of courage, strength and love.
