Ficino School Letter Week 3, Term 3, 2016

The annual Ficino Cross Country run took place on a cool Wednesday afternoon this week. This event provides a unique challenge in which everyone has to dig deep and push themselves outside of their comfort zone for an extended period. This is character building and encourages our students to feel what it’s like to achieve more than they think they can. This is a good definition of success – going beyond the confines of what we think we can do. What always touches the heart is the way the Ficino students cheer on the strugglers – recognising the challenges they are facing both physically and emotionally. The senior boys set a fine example by running alongside the final competitor through the last stages of the course.

Earlier this week on Tuesday evening, eight of our senior students entered the EPR08 new inter-school science and technology competition. They spent nearly three hours in two teams using gears, electric motors and pulleys to design and build various mechanical devices from tower cranes to Mars buggies. Out of around ten local teams, our students came second and fifth, with one team progressing to the next round. With only a couple of afternoons of preparation, this is an impressive finish. Well done.

Year 4 Play – Thursday 18/8 – 11am

Class Four is presenting the story of Demeter and Persephone for parents and friends on Thursday 18th August at 11 am. Everyone welcome.
