Ficino School Letter Week 2, Term 4, 2016

This week has been a good “settling in” week for Ficino pupils with no interruptions to their normal timetable in the way of trips and events, other than for Class Six.  These students have been sitting Cambridge Primary Checkpoint tests which are designed afresh each year as part of the Cambridge Curriculum to assess learners at the end of Cambridge Primary. The tests are marked in Cambridge and provide schools with an external international benchmark for learner performance.

The week’s assemblies started with the viewing of a few minutes of activities and feeding of three full grown thrush chicks living in a nest outside my kitchen window.  They had hatched from their eggs only 13 days before.  By the end Day 13 all three had left the nest, hopping away to get their own food.  Spring has arrived.

Today in assembly we spoke about elections, and how when on display as a prominent person, the way one has conducted one’s life and the attitudes held can start to show themselves.   At Ficino the children are taught how to exercise self-control and are encouraged always to look to others’ needs before their own.   Such conduct becomes a habit and can lead to a life of good conduct and service to our communities in little or large ways.

“I slept and I dreamed that life is all joy.
I woke and I saw that life is all service.
I served and I saw that service is joy.”      Kahlil Gibran

There has been most uplifting viewing of the progress of the Renaissance Trip each day through the blog.  They are having a marvellous time.  For us we have a Labour Weekend holiday.  May you all have a most enjoyable and refreshing break.
