Welcome back to Term 3. It is always delightful to see the children at the first assembly of the term, looking smart, and gently waking up to the regular routines and new opportunities a new term provides.
On Thursday mornings this term, students from Years Two to Six will have an opportunity to meet with their teachers to discuss setting a goal for themselves. As a staff we have discussed making sure these are simple, measurable and achievable because the main purpose is for the students themselves to feel the power of achieving something by their own efforts and will.
Some classes will also be encouraged to pursue a topic of interest, again largely under their own steam. This is to give experience of a journey that begins with wonder, and leads on to development of a rich question to guide their inquiry. Eventually they have the opportunity to make meaning – draw conclusions that can contribute to their understanding. This can crystallize if they take some action such as speaking to the class or making a project.
Both these initiatives are aimed at the development of strong growth mindsets which has been a theme for this year.
Parents are welcome to attend the Commendations Assembly on Friday 10 August at 8.30am. Awards will be given to deserving students in each Year.
