Ficino School Letter Week 1, Term 3, 2016

It has been wonderful to welcome the children and parents back to school after the winter break. As a Principal, the one to one meetings with students are always a delight. They love to share little wonders of their learning journey. One suggestion this week was that we should have traffic lights on all the corners of the corridors and on the entrances to classrooms so there are no collisions. After consideration, I think we’ll stick with wakefulness and patience rather than more mechanical tools.

Having read the teachers’ letters to parents, there are plenty of interesting activities happening this term. The Australian Maths Competition took place yesterday for Year 4 to 8 students and we successfully registered the senior students to complete it online for the first time. Unlike most other schools, within reason, we let all students attempt the competition with sometimes surprisingly good results from unexpected quarters.

The Preschool is nearing completion and once it has been set up we will provide an opportunity for any interested parents and students to view the premises. Dependent on how long the licensing process takes, we should be opening the facility for children in September. If you have any friends with preschool aged children, feel free to collect information from the office to pass on to them. A splendid article about the Ficino Preschool was featured in this week’s Central Leader (Wednesday). This can be viewed on our school website.
