Ficino Preschool first opened its doors in September 2016. A year seems to have flown by, and it is unimaginable to remember a time when we haven’t heard busy young voices playing outside, tending to their gardens, and engaging in a variety of projects and games.
The Preschool students and teachers were lucky enough to welcome in parents, grandparents and past students (who now go to the ‘big Ficino School’) to join in the celebrations. A yummy afternoon tea was presided over by George the Dragon, hanging suspended from the rafters. Oliver (the dragon’s proud creator) loved showing him off to the visitors, as did all the children who helped him in the creation process.
It was an excellent opportunity for families to see everything that the children had been working on throughout the year. The ‘About Me’ project is one that has gone down many paths since it began back in May. Children learnt all about their names, what they meant; whether they were the first in the family with that name etc. They created black and white photos of themselves and personalised them with what they love. An important memory of when they were 3 and 4!
Some of our 4-year olds who are moving on to Ficino School next year shared some of the work they’re most proud of. Chloe, our rainbow lover, got to share her many rainbow artworks – all the bright and cheerful colours were a timely reminder that we’d soon be enjoying many colourful flowers as the weather warmed up.
We were all very lucky to have the sun as a special guest for the occasion too! The children enjoyed getting outside, showing their families the sandpit and water pump. They also showcased their prowess on the slide and climbing frames. The outside play was all possible thanks to several large sunshades that had recently been installed – perfect timing for children and families alike!
We all look forward to the upcoming year, proud to farewell more of our original students and looking forward to welcoming the next cohort of dragon creators, artists, gymnasts and rainbow hunters!
