Despite the onset of winter, two classes headed out for school trips this week. Year 5 participated in our annual visit to Cue Haven which is an extraordinary project to turn a 24 hectare private property overlooking Kaipara Harbour from farmland into a native bush reserve which is to be gifted to the City of Auckland on completion. The students planted trees and visited the sites where every year previous Ficino students have assisted with planting. The Year 3 and 4 students had an exciting trip to the Planetarium to support their Nature Study programme.
Earlier this term, Year 3 students wrote some simple reflections on their most memorable experiences from Term One of the year. One of the delights of children’s writing is how they can shift from the mundane to the sublime in the blink of an eye. Here are some of their observations:
“Term One was amazing because I learned to have focused attention and also how to read time and use money.”
“It was great learning the Sanskrit alphabet. Most importantly I have learned how to learn. I have to listen and think.”
“In Philosophy we have been learning about God, Heaven and how the world is created. I love it because I love God. I also love Art.”
“I love Art because painting is so peaceful.”
‘The Odd One Out’
Year 1 and Preschool children will be attending a performance by Capital E on Tuesday 29 May. It is a non-verbal show about embracing differences and adapting to changes, and will be enjoyed by children of all nationalities.

Class 2 Spirit Play – 11am Thursday 31 May
The gods grew very boastful about winning a great victory and were having a feast to celebrate. A mysterious person entered the festivities and they sent Water, Fire and Wind to find out who he was. They could not discover who he was. In the end Wisdom showed them that it is only through Spirit that they could do anything.
All parents and friends are welcome to come along and enjoy the Spirit Play.
Friends of Ficino have organised another delicious Samosa drive. Make sure you fill in the order form and return it with payment to the School Office by Wednesday 13 June.
Please circulate it widely among your friends, family, neighbours and work colleagues as these samosas are delicious!
