Ficino School Letter, Week 11 Term 1 2018

We come to the end of another fine term in the which the children (and teachers) have been stretched to develop their talents in myriad different dimensions.  I interviewed a prospective student this week and asked what his favourite subject at school was.  His rather dour answer was “We don’t do many subjects – just English and Maths…oh…and Topic”.  He made me realise what a wonderful feast of experience our students are offered.  Subjects used to be called ‘disciplines’ because they trained the mind in different ways or thinking, each important in its own right to develop a rounded intellect.  It was rather disappointing to hear that in this student’s mind, there were only three.

The Friends of Ficino exceeded even their own high expectations with the organisation of the Ho-Down last weekend. The event had a wonderful feeling of community, with everyone helping out in different ways.  We are grateful for the huge support that was evident in the parent body.  The event raised $5, 550 after expenses; half of which goes to School Projects – which currently is saving up for an astroturf play area behind the villa; more news on this next term.  The other half goes towards this year’s Renaissance Trip.  The Friends of Ficino would like to thank all the parents who helped and also The Produce Company for their generous donation of food, and grandparent Margaret Fish for managing the bar.  Look out for news of the Italian Opera evening in the pipeline for later this year.

School Holidays

Term 1 finishes on Friday 20 April, with Term 2 beginning on Tuesday 8 May.
Please note: Monday 7th May is Teacher only day.

Ficino School Sports Jackets

Another order for the Ficino School sports jacket is being placed at the end of Week 2 in Term 2.  The royal blue and gold jackets which are wind and shower proof will have Ficino School printed on the front and back. A variety of sizes will be available in the office for your child to try on at the beginning of Term 2.

They can be used for PE, but not as an alternative to the polar fleece.  It would be good if all children in Ficino Sports teams purchased one, to give a unified look.  The jackets will cost $70 each and orders must be placed and paid for before Friday 18th May.

This is the only order we will place this year, and the jackets will not be available from the uniform shop.

Ficino After School Care (FASC)

Please remember that all bookings for FASC need to be made through the school office either by email office@ficino.school.nz or by phone 6233385. If your child is booked in and no longer coming to after school care, please ring the office and cancel the booking.

Uniform Shop

Please remember that we will be going into Winter Uniform in Term 2.  For those parents who need to purchase winter uniforms, the School Uniform shop with be open on the Staff Only Day, Monday 7 May from 10am – 12 noon.
