Ficino School Letter Week 7, Term 4, 2017

This week the School has had quite a different atmosphere – more quiet, more space, with all the senior classes away for much of the week.  Years 7 and 8 had a stimulating visit to Wellington where they visited the Botanic Gardens, Westpac Stadium and Te Papa Museum, Parliament Buildings and Weta Workshop.  Years 5 and 6 have been enjoying the outdoors – camping and hiking at Waikato River and surrounds, including a walk to the Arapuni Dam, the Wairere Falls Walk and a visit to the Maungatautari Inland Ecological Reserve.  Also, Years 3 and 4 spent half a day at the Auckland Maritime Museum.

New Entrants, Years 1 and 2 have been getting on with decorating their Christmas Trees for Sunday’s Christmas Event –  a head start on the senior classes.  Today, the school is abuzz with tree decorating.

At this morning’s Assembly, our Graduand Year 8 students were each presented with a Ficino Lapel pin.  Mr Crompton shared with us some of the comments from these students in response to questions in the Year 8 Graduating Students’ survey: their valuing their Ficino Education for providing them a strong foundation, the small classes and one-on-one attention, a school where everyone is included and how they enjoyed their teachers – they are “strict, good-humoured and kind”.  The best things mentioned were the opportunities, the friendliness, mindfulness in practice and the food.  The obvious highlights were the Renaissance Trip and The Tempest production.  Mr Crompton spoke of how close and supportive of each other this cohort was, even though a large class, that they were proactive and fun-loving, good leaders and they possessed a fine sense of willingness to serve the School.  They have grown in character in this last year to the benefit of the wider school community.
