Ficino School Letter Week 8, Term 1, 2017

It has been delightful this week to hear news of some of our alumni.  If you’ve seen this morning’s Herald, there was an article about former pupil, Tristan Pang, who was Head Boy at Ficino three years ago.  Tristan has a love of Maths and Science, but most notable is his enquiring mind and his desire to think outside the box.  This spirit of enquiry is something we foster at Ficino and a number of our graduating students have carried this forward into their next stage of education.

Former students, Bevan Tucker and Joanna Li, gave their time on Wednesday evening to speak to prospective parents at our Information Evening. Both spoke with poise, clarity and a depth of understanding beyond their years.  They saw Ficino as a place where they had developed a strong moral compass and a place where the teachers encouraged their enquiring minds. Both have been recognised in the news in the last year for outstanding achievements.  Bevan spent three years building a beach buggy from scratch which he takes to motor shows around the city.  Joanna last year attained a ‘Perfect Score’ of 40/40 in her Scholarship History Exam.  Joanna spoke at the Information Evening about how she had developed a ‘Thinking Mindset’ in preparation for exams rather than just learning a lot of facts.  Both Bevan and Joanna, in the way they stood, spoke and conducted themselves, made their teachers proud to see what fine young adults they have become.
