Welcome back to a new term and a new year. The children look well rested and in fine fettle. On Tuesday morning, we welcomed seventeen new students to the school including six in Year One and the rest throughout the school. Two students have arrived from our sister school John Colet in Sydney and coincidentally one of our students moved there.
Some work has been done over the holidays on the school buildings including the removal of the redundant fire escape at the back of the villa. However the main focus for development this term is the Pre-School building on the corner site. Building consent and the start of construction are imminent. The new Head Teacher and Centre Manager Miss Trinette Bush, has been on site this week and last, involving herself in staff workshops, assemblies, lunch and familiarising herself with the ethos and dynamic of Ficino School. She has a wealth of experience and will enrich our school community.
We welcome a number of new members of staff this term; Mrs Nicolette Farrelly as Year Two teacher, Mrs Julian-Miles providing early intervention English help, Mrs Ann Crowley helping older students including those with English as a Second language and Mrs Nicole De Pina as Marketing and Communications Manager. We also welcome Richard Calver as a second gap year student alongside Ellie Mason who was with us last term. Mrs Clare Watkins will be taking the role of Senior Syndicate Leader this year looking after teachers and students in Years 5 to 8.
I look forward to meeting Class One and new parents at the lunch next week.

Ficino Running Club – Friday Mornings – Yr 5 – 8 children
Ficino Running Club has started again on Friday mornings, starting at 7am. It is open for children in Year 5 – 8 and their parents. Younger children are welcome to come along if they are able to run without stopping for 30 minutes and they are accompanied by a parent. Breakfast is provided, but please bring a gold coin donation for this. With this money we also support the CAP (Christians Against Poverty) organisation by purchasing sports shoes for children in Auckland who are from needy families. If you have any questions about the running club, please contact Mrs Watkins firstname.lastname@example.org
