School Newsletter Week 3, Term 4, 2015

I had the good fortune to take five of our Year 8 students out to lunch today. Their conduct, maturity and ease was remarkable. They conversed generously and happily about what they have enjoyed in their years at Ficino School. Although ready to move on to new horizons, they were very clear about the value of the education they have been provided with. One big surprise was their unanimous consent on the value of Sanskrit! They perhaps could not put their finger on why, but they all felt it was an important and worthwhile part of the curriculum. Two cited Sanskrit as being the most significant thing they will take with them from their education at Ficino. I look forward to hearing from the other five students next week.

Many of you will be aware that we are planning to open the Ficino Pre-School next year, and may be interested in a brief update. The Pre-School is to be located on the corner of Esplanade Road and View Road with a new building to be erected to replace the three existing flats. The Head Teacher has been appointed and the proposed opening date is Term 2, 2016. It will be licensed for around thirty children aged three to five years old, and will act as a natural feeder for Ficino School. This is a major investment by the Board and a demonstration of their commitment to expanding the scope of what Ficino School offers. If you know anyone who might be interested in the Pre-School, please contact the Ficino School office. There will be a meeting later this term with an opportunity to meet the new Head Teacher and hear more about the developments. Details of this will be available soon.
