This week has provided an excellent finish for the term. On Wednesday Year 3 – 8 students and staff visited Tiritiri Matangi. This is a trip we aim to do once every three years, so every student has the opportunity to visit twice in their time at Ficino. The first time provides a focus on the wonderful bird life and the second to come to understand the importance of the conservation work that takes place there. Our guides were all volunteers and were exceptionally knowledgeable and enthusiastic. The students enjoyed using their senses fully to listen to and spot once rare birds that are now breeding safely and whose populations are being restored. On the same day our Year 1 and 2 students visited the zoo where their focus was big cats and camouflage respectively. They saw elephants carry logs with their trunks and hippopotamus submerging themselves in glorious mud.
On Thursday our end of term church service was simple but somehow very moving, with beautiful readings; one from Marsilio Ficino read by the Head Boy and a prayer of St Anselm by the Head Girl. Reverend Hornburg always leads our services with great sincerity and good humour.
Our final assembly this morning was a delightful affair. Netball and Hockey awards were given out and we heard from many of the parent coaches. We are very grateful for their commitment and obvious passion for the learning that takes place in team sports.
I wish everyone a restful break and look forward to the start of our final term in October.
