Whenever we welcome prospective parents on our School Tours, I always speak of our connection with other schools around the world. St James in London began in 1975 and now educates close to a thousand children in its primary and secondary schools. Ficino has sister schools in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban in South Africa, Dublin, Trinidad and Tobago, and Sydney and Melbourne. Recently John Colet School in Sydney and Erasmus School in Melbourne attained exceptional results in the Australian standardised testing programme called NAPLAN. John Colet School was reported in the local newspaper as having scored the highest in all categories in their district. Please follow the link below the read the article.
There is no ranking of schools academically in New Zealand, so no comparable statistics are available for Ficino School. However most schools choose to sit Progressive Achievement Tests (PAT) which give some indication of where we sit compared to national norms. Our students consistently perform exceptionally well with most class averages sitting close to or above the upper quartile. I hope to share some graphs of these excellent results with you at our next Parent Meeting which takes place in June; more details to follow soon.
As Gilbert Mane, recently retired headmaster of John Colet, explains; our schools don’t focus on testing but rather provide an enriched curriculum including studies of a classical language, which naturally stretches the students.
