Message from the Principal – 7 March 2014

As part of their History, Myth and Culture programme, Class 2 have been hearing Creation stories from different cultures. This week, they looked at an aboriginal story that outlined the purpose for which each of the animals was created. At the end of the story two human beings were created. After a little reflection, one of the students asked ‘What is the purpose of a human life?” This is a big question but one which the six year olds had no hesitation in offering answers. This is what they said the purpose of human life is.

  • To be helpful
  • To listen
  • To be obedient to good things
  • To show happiness
  • To care
  • To be mindful
  • To bring up new inventions
  • To bring joy
  • To give

The longer such an innocent, open-hearted view of life’s purpose can be nurtured, the stronger it will be. These students’ views will change for sure, but to have such principles established in their hearts at this age will provide an important anchor in times of tribulation.
